Willamette Valley / Valle de Willamette

The Willamette Valley can be defined graphically in different ways, via a bioregion, growing region, or a watershed. It is more important than a physical boundary. It is the center of Oregon agriculture, producing a diversity of crops pivotal to the economy.

The unique agricultural history of the Willamette Valley has been shaped by the geologic processes that created the fertile soils, the management of the landscape by Native Americans, the arrival of trappers and fir traders, then the Oregon Trail settlers and homesteads, onto family farms, industrial agriculture, and now organics, locally grown, and sustainability initiatives. These layers of human and natural history are what gives the Willamette Valley its unique sense of place.
