Crops and Yields / Cultivos y Cosechas
The Willamette Valley is a diverse growing region with over 170 different types of crops produced1. In addition to planted crops, dairy, meat, and eggs are produced in the valley. This strong diversity of agricultural production gives the sector relative stability, as it is not dependent on any one particular crop even though crops and yields in the Willamette Valley vary from year to year2. Annual plantings can vary and are often dependent upon the global market value for individual crops. Commodities such as milk or orchard crops often have less fluctuation in quantity because their production is not easily changed annually.

The valley has some of the most productive counties in the nation. In 2008, six of the top ten grossing counties in the state were within the Willamette Valley and Marion County ranked 45 of 3079 counties in the US in 2007 for total value of agriculture products sold3,4. This growing region also allows for cultivation of crops that are found in very few, if any, other locations globally, including Marionberries and hazelnuts, also called Filberts.
